about

Having found its natural home on Jalapeno, the reissue of John Turrell’s debut solo album ‘The Kingmaker’ sparked the interest of label mates and it wasn’t long before the enquiries to do remixes came flooding in.

In a refreshing break away from their recent output which focused squarely on the disco tinged electronic vibes of their Juicy Fruit album, Kraak & Smaak took on ‘Low’ and have transformed it from its former self into a dancehall influenced groove. This warm and weighty delight builds into a melodic and complex crescendo of analog synthesizers. Clearly signaling a return to the broken beat roots that established the unique and distinctive K&S sound it’s a glorious mix ripe for the floor.

A longtime collaborator of John’s on various projects and with a recent feature on his album in place meant that Basement Freaks was the first to petition his involvement. ‘Won't Get Fooled Again’ was without a doubt the perfect choice and it has been given an electro boogie makeover, reinvigorated by a bassline so infectious it would make Bootsy Collins bounce in funk heaven.
